Natural Relief For Acid Reflux

Admittedly it can be hard to put a name to acid reflux. That's some kind of digestion problem right? Well yes. But chances are good that you're familiar with the symptoms. Pain in the chest. Burping and hiccups. That foul taste in your mouth when you regurgitate after a meal. Acid reflux. Not great, really.

Acid reflux is when hydrochloric acid escapes the stomach and enters the esophagus. You're more vulnerable to reflux if you're pregnant or overweight. Other factors that can cause acid reflux including smoking, eating large meals or snacking close to bed time.

Fortunately, there is relief to those who suffer from acid reflux. Digestive Science Reflux Elimination System is a three-step process to relieve the pain of acid reflux and to treat the causes of this all-too-common ailment. Get the cause and you reduce the problem. Do it naturally and you've got a safe acid reflux treatment.

More on that in a moment. First, it's important to note that acid reflux is more than just an annoyance. To millions of Americans, it's a serious collection of symptoms that underlie problems with the digestive system. Symptoms include:
  • heartburn
  • nausea
  • bloody or black stools
  • chronic sore throat
  • unexplained weight loss
While it's not uncommon for these symptoms to appear sporadically, if they happen more than twice a week you have acid reflux disease. The cause? In many cases, it's a lack of digestive enzymes to balance hydrochloric acid with proper metabolism.

Of course, healthy lifestyle solutions may reduce acid reflux. You've heard it said to maintain a healthy weight, eat slower, stop smoking and limit alcohol consumption. And these are valid points. But in many patients they're simply steps to reduce symptoms rather than treat the causes of acid reflux.

What's worse, many common reflux medicines, including antacids and proton pump inhibitors, alter the digestive system's delicate balance of enzymes and hydrochloric acid, which can make reflux worse and lead to more serious digestive problems down the road.

And that's one of several reasons why we designed Digestive Science Reflux Elimination System – to bring safe relief to people with acid reflux and to treat the causes of this problematic condition.

What makes Reflux Elimination System stand out from common reflux treatments? Because of all the treatments you've seen, few treat lack of digestive enzymes – one of the most common causes of acid reflux – and few, if any, offer the ongoing natural support and renewal essential for long-term digestive health.

Step one consists of our Acid Control Formula. Let's be honest, your first priority is to reduce the pain and discomfort, correct? We get that loud and clear, and we've formulated the Acid Control Formula to protect your esophagus and reduce the overproduction of hydrochloric acid. Less burning, less pain.

In step two we get to work, with an enzyme renewal system to break the cycle of acid reflux. The Digestive Enzyme Renewal is a daily supplement to bring a much-needed balance of digestive enzymes with hydrochloric acid. You'll notice improvements here, with faster and more efficient digestion, less gas and constipation. The pain subsides, and so does the burning.

And in step three we provide you with the support required for ongoing digestive health. The Daily Digestion Support is strategically formulated with fibers, antioxidants and Omega-3 fatty acids, including the superfood "chia", for good digestive function and nutrient absorption. Less gas and diarrhea, better health. Happier you!

Get the point? There is safe and effective relief from the discomfort you feel. Try Digestive Science Reflux Elimination System and be free of acid reflux!

Boost Your Immune System with a Super-Powerful Antioxidant

Poly-MVA® is a promising new dietary supplement that may assist in boosting immune response, and healing damaged cells. It is a uniquely formulated nutritional supplement containing a proprietary blend of Palladium and alpha-lipoic Acid (which we refer to as LAPd), Vitamins B1, B2 and B12, Formylmethionine, Acetyl Cystiene, and trace amounts of Molybdenum, Rhodium, and Ruthenium. It is designed to provide energy for the compromised body systems by changing the electrical potential of human cells, increasing the charge density of DNA within the cell.

Poly-MVA is a new, nontoxic, powerful antioxidant dietary supplement. While definitive studies on it's effect in human nutrition and health are under way, early studies and anecdotal information indicate that the active ingredients in Poly-MVA may be beneficial in protecting cell DNA and RNA, assisting the body produce energy, and provide support to the liver in removing harmful substances from the body. Some studies indicate that ingredients of Poly-MVA can assist in preventing cell damage, and removing heavy metals from the bloodstream.

As a powerful antioxidant, it can help to neutralize the free radicals within the body that are thought to influence the aging processes and convert them into energy. Other ingredients are involved in DNA synthesis, production of the myelin sheath that protects nerves, and red blood cell production, and playing an important role in immune and nerve function.

What makes Poly-MVA unique is the special, proprietary manufacturing process by which lipoic acid is bonded to Palladium (LAPd) No other company produces any product similar to PolyMVA because of the patented preparation and bonding process through which LAPd is manufactured.

The proprietary formulation of LAPd with other vitamins, minerals, and amino acids provides considerable nutritional support, helping to enable optimum functioning of essential body systems.

Poly-MVA provides the following nutritional support to the body
  • Helps the body to produce energy
  • Supports the liver in removing harmful substances from the body
  • Assists in preventing cell damage.
  • Assists the body in removing heavy metals from the bloodstream
  • Powerful antioxidant and detoxificant.
  • Prevents B-12 deficiency- related mental disturbances in the elderly
  • Supports nerve and neurotransmitter function
  • Enhances white blood cell function.
  • Supports pH balance, helping to maintain oxygenation of cells and tissues.
Although scientific studies have not been completed, a significant number of articles in the peer reviewed scientific and medical journals discuss the possible biochemical significance of LAPd in supporting various biological functions within animals and humans. Additionally, some studies have already been planned or are currently underway to further evaluate the value and effectiveness of LAPd in human nutrition.

Individual Ingredients of PolyMVA

The alpha-lipoic acid ("LA") in Poly-MVA (also known as thioctic acid) works together with other antioxidants such as Vitamins C and E. LA helps the body to produce energy, and provides support to the liver in removing harmful substances from the body. Some studies indicate that LA assists in preventing cell damage, and removing heavy metals from the bloodstream. Because of its strong detoxificant effects, LA is commonly used in the treatment of Amanita mushroom poisoning, which causes severe liver damage. LA also influences the metabolism of sugar, and can help to keep blood sugar in balance.

Diabetics seem to receive particular benefit from this substance. Alpha lipoic acid helps ward off diabetic neuropathy (painful extremities) and retinopathy (a common cause of blindness). It also helps regulate blood sugar and prevent cardiomyopathy. Alpha lipoic acid may even be involved in nerve regeneration. Promising studies are underway to determine its value in retarding the onset of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Diseases.

As a powerful antioxidant, LA can help to neutralize the free radicals within the body that are thought to influence aging processes.

LA is both water and fat soluble, so it is easily passed across the blood-brain barrier, and is functional in almost all other parts of the body as well.

Vitamin B-12 is also known as cobalamin It's most common form is cyanocobalamin, which is broken down to methylcobalamin by the body. It is generally found only in meat and dairy products. In combination with folic acid, B-12 is involved in DNA synthesis, production of the myelin sheath that protects nerves, and red blood cell production. As a methyl donor involved in homocysteine metabolism, B-12 also plays an important role in immune and nerve function.

B-12 deficiency is fairly common in those over 65, and because it is stored in organs, deficiencies can take a very long time - up to 6 years - to appear. Worse, deficiencies of B12 or folic acid (a complementary substance necessary for B-12 utilization) can result in significant mental disturbances without any indication of anemia or other clinical indication of deficiency. In patients with B-12 deficiency, up to 61% have shown a marked increase in mental capacity when B-12 supplements are added to the diet.

Taken orally, B-12 is absorbed at a rate of about 1.2% according to most studies. Since the body uses about 2 mcg of B-12 daily, 200 mcg orally administered will maintain B-12 levels at stasis. For those who are deficient, a higher supplementation level will be required.

Vitamin B-1 (thiamin is a coenzyme that, in combination with lipoic acid, is involved in the decarboxylation of pyruvate and the oxidation of alpha keto-glutamic acid. These functions are essential to energy production, metabolism of carbohydrates, and neurotransmitter function. B-1 is extremely sensitive to alcohol, sulfites, and tannins found in black tea and coffee; all will render B-1 ineffective. B-1 is water soluble and is not stored in any quantities in the body.

Extreme B-1 deficiency, which is rare in most developed countries, causes beriberi, a syndrome whose symptoms include loss of muscle, mental confusion, elevated blood pressure, and edema. Milder deficiencies can cause fatigue, depression, tingling or numbness in the extremities, and constipation. Research in animals indicates that B-1 activates membrane ion channels, possibly by phosphorylating them. The flow of electrolytes like sodium and chloride in or out of nerve and muscle cells through membrane ion channels plays a role in nerve impulse conduction and voluntary muscle action.

Vitamin B2 riboflavin acts as a cofactor for enzymes involved in metabolism. It is an essential part of FAD or flavin adenine dinucleotide coenzymes and FMN or flavin mononucleotide. These coenzymes are involved in energy production and the metabolism of protein, fat and carbohydrate – essential processes in every cell in the body. They are also cofactors for two important antioxidant enzyme systems – glutathione peroxidase and xanthine oxidase. Riboflavin coenzymes are also important in the cytochrome p450 enzymes, the body's primary detoxification system.B2) works with the other B vitamins and is important for body growth and red cell production. Similar to thiamine, it helps in releasing energy from carbohydrates.

Molybdenum is an essential trace mineral. It is crucial in regulating pH balance in the body, which, in turn, directly effects oxygenation of cells and tissues, and the resulting metabolic rate of the body. The need for molybdenum has been established, but there is presently no recommended daily allowance.

N-Acetyl Cystiene (NAC) is an amino acid naturally occurring in the body. It is a potent antioxidant that is involved in maintenance of cholesterol and lipoprotein levels, and functions in combination with natural interferons in the body to enhance immune response. NAC is an amino acid derivative, which has begun to receive increasing attention as a powerful free radical scavenger. This simple compound has an extremely low profile of side effects and helps the body in a variety of ways. It enhances the activity of Vitamins C & E. It enhances the immune system, improves lung function, helps transport sterol hormones, helps prevent insulin resistance, and prevents ammonia formation.

As a dietary supplement, take 1/2 tsp daily. For maximum support, take up to 8 tsp daily or as directed by your healthcare professional.
  • Shake well before usage.
  • Store in a cool, dry place or refrigerate after opening.
  • The use of nicotine will reduce the efectiveness of this product.
PolyMVA is a uniquely formulated combination of minerals, vitamins and amino acids designed to support callular energy production and promote overall health by restoring certain nutrients that may be depleated during chemo therapy and radiation.

Aging and Sex

For most people, aging is a mysterious human biological process. The process, just like any other scientifically proven development, is really far from being unexplainable. In fact, aging involves many theories and explanations on how this natural phenomenon happens to all human beings.

Almost all scientific explanations for aging are based on the observations of objects around us. The process is basically attributed to the principle that an individual, just like any animal and non-living, complex engines, tends to deteriorate or age as years pass by. Aging among humans have two types- the biological and chronological processes. According to experts, chronological aging pertains to the years you have been living while biological aging shows how much your body changes as compared to how you were from the past years as well as to other people who are of the same age as you. Since the biological process is what matters most in aging, you can now have more control over your health as it is now possible to prolong or slow down biological maturity by simply adhering to the currently available medical breakthroughs that can stop the aging process.

Theories of Aging

Theories and medical studies related to aging are exhaustively expounded so as to help people understand the principles of the process. One of the basic theories that explain why we change as we age is the genetic explanation. Early scientists claim that our biological aging processes are coded in our genes. The theory clearly explains that environmental factors can further affect our aging periods for pollutants can eventually degrade cell formations in our body. The flaw in this theory, however, is seen on the fact that since aging is basically mapped on our genes, we cannot do anything about it. As there are numerous legal and safe ways to keep our bodies healthy and younger looking, the theory is generally disregarded by today's medical experts.

Meanwhile, stress is another prime factor that can affect the aging process. Known as the most complex theory on aging, stress apparently affects the growth and aging glands inside our bodies, particularly the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus is considered the "Boss of all Glands" since it controls the hormonal release processes of all other glands in the body. When we experience too much stress, this gland will become less accurate, thus, leading to imbalanced hormonal level within our bodies and resulting to more damaged tissues.

Moreover, the free radical theory is probably the most widely accepted explanation on aging. Free radicals, or loose highly reactive body chemicals, are basically proven to be the main cause of tissue damage when over-exposed with these chemicals. While free radicals have a number of usages in the body, too much of these bodily chemicals can damage our cells and tissues.

Free radicals have adverse effects inside the body for these chemicals are highly reactive. These chemicals contain extra electrons that enable them to absorb electrons of other molecules. As the free radicals repeatedly do this, they eventually wear out the cells in our bodies as well as create new chemicals on the process. As the cells in our bodies wear out, we then experience the early signs of aging.

Effects of Aging on Sex

As explained earlier, we experience many changes as we age and these changes can be both psychological and physical. Unfortunately, our sexual vigor is among the things that inevitably changes as we get older. During our young age, we have a lot of energy for this activity, thus, enjoying its benefits and gaining experiences from it. But as we age, we tend to lose interest or have less energy for sex.

Hormonal changes are considered normal signs of aging. These changes, however, can significantly affect the levels of our sexual drive. As for men, testosterone production decreases due to aging and health conditions. The same goes for aging women since studies show that most females who are on the prime of their age no longer have the strong sexual vigor they once have when they are still young.

On the other hand, physical changes are not the only factor that can affect the sexuality of aging adults. The changes in our surroundings and environment can also alter the impact of sex on aging individuals. The values and concepts of sex invariably change during the various stages of our lives. If you are already in your fifties or sixties, you will see that the sexual beliefs and values of your time are very different as compared to the experiences and principles of the younger generation. Hence, physical changes and social influences can essentially affect the sexual drive of every aging individual.

How to Maintain Sexual Drive

The most effective way to improve and maintain your sexual ardor as you age is to have sex regularly. Just like in keeping your body fit and sound, regular and satisfying sexual performance can really train your body to respond well to sex. If you're having a little trouble in the love department, try some GenF20™ HGH. This wonderful supplement can aid in helping to restore your HGH to youthful levels and not only can GenF20™ help give you more energy, but it can also help to boost your sex drive.

Learning the psychology of sex can also help you and your partner have a normal and satisfying sexual relationship. As an aging adult, you need to consider various factors that can affect you and your partner's sexual activities. These considerations include proper medications, stable medical conditions, adequate foreplay, and appropriate positions. When these factors are seriously considered by aging adults who are experiencing problems with sex, they will definitely experience improvements on their sexual activities and relationships.

Overall, aging is indeed one of the components of life that we cannot prevent from happening. Although it is an inevitable process, aging is still a wonderful natural way of life that reminds us that we are alive and by far gained a lot of experiences from our existence. Although aging can be prolonged and even prevented, we will, one way or the other, still invariably experience the effects of aging, particularly in sex. To get passed this stage is as easy as exercising daily to maintain a healthy body. Engaging in a regular sexual activity will surely help your body maintain its sexual vigor even as you age.

How to Heal Candida Naturally

Clear fungal infections with foods and nutritional supplements and stay infection free for life

Many people complain about declining health and number of recurrent disparate symptoms for which there seem to be no explanation. The ailments are often dismissed as psychosomatic or treated with antibiotics - a practice that only worsens the overall condition of a patient. A thorough examination, however, may show that a person suffers from candidiasis - a fungal infection caused by number of Candida species, most commonly by Candida albicans. Candidiasis infections range from superficial, such as skin infections which are relatively easy to cure, to poly-systemic mycosis that can be life threatening if not diagnosed and medicated properly.

Candida albicans together with many other microorganisms constitutes the flora which colonizes our internal and external bodily surfaces soon after birth. Our health and well being depend on a balance between various microorganisms, especially the balance between the good and the harmful microorganisms in the intestines. Researchers identified about 400 different species of microflora that can live in the gut. Most of these organisms are transient and occur in small numbers.

In healthy people Candida albicans remains non-invasive. However, when the balance of the intestinal flora is damaged due to poor diet, toxins, use of laxatives, medication with antibiotics, or stress, the balance between the health promoting lacto- and bifidobacteria and the harmful organisms normally present in the intestines, is disturbed. The beneficial organisms die out while pathogens proliferate. With the decrease of the protective friendly flora our system is open to invasion and colonization by harmful opportunistic organisms including Candida albicans. With the increased numbers, the normally harmless microorganisms begin to cause harm in the body.

The resulting imbalance leads to many ailments including
  • digestive disorders
  • insufficient nutrient absorption
  • recurrent infections due to poorly functioning immune system
  • inflammation
  • hormonal imbalance
  • skin ailments and allergies
  • mental and emotional disorders
Some conditions, such as hypothyroidism, hypoglycemia, diabetes, intestinal toxicity, and chronic stress, allow candida overgrowth. These conditions have to be addressed if one wants to cure Candida and avoid new Candida infections in the future.

Candida albicans is a single cell dimorphic organism. It can change its morphology from the non-invasive sugar-fermenting yeast to mycelial, rhizoids producing invasive mold. In its invasive form Candida albicans can penetrate the gastrointestinal mucosa, thus breaking the boundary between the digestive tract and the rest of the body. It enters the blood stream and infests other organs of the body. Moreover, it releases antigenic material and toxic by-products of its own metabolism into the body of a host. Researchers identified 79 toxins produced by Candida. The immune system reacts frantically by producing antibodies to all the toxins. This indiscriminate reaction leads to hypersensitivity that characterizes poly-systemic chronic candidiasis. An infected person becomes sensitive to scents and odors, feels dizzy and wakes up in the morning feeling "inebriated".

Diagnosis includes several tests of stool cultures and a blood test, as well as a very reliable organic acid urine test. Once positive diagnosis has been made, a patient is given anti fungal medication. Unfortunately, fungicides are either ineffective or harmful to the liver and many people turn to alternative therapies. A successful healing strategy involves destruction of harmful organisms, detoxification, reconstruction of the mucosa, and restoration of the immune system.

A patient has to follow strict anti-candida diet in order to "starve" Candida. Since yeasts are able to ferment dietary sugar, sugar promotes the growth of yeast and has to be avoided in all its forms (saccharose, glucose, lactose, maltose, and fructose). Refined carbohydrates such as white bread and pasta, should also be eliminated from the diet. Alcohol, vinegar, and stimulants such as coffee and soda should be avoided and replaced with purified water. Patients are advised not to consume any processed foods as they may contain sugar and other substances detrimental to health. Complex carbohydrates, non-starchy vegetables, lean meat and fish should be consumed instead. Foods such as garlic, non-pasteurized lactic acid fermented sauerkraut, virgin coconut oil, foods with high fiber content, and natural, sugar-free organic yogurt with live cultures, are beneficial. Yeast- and lactose-free nutritional supplements should support healthy diet. Supplements are to be taken to destroy the candida overgrowth, repopulate the intestinal tract with beneficial organisms, and to restore gastrointestinal health and the immune system.

Supplements with Candida healing properties:
  • Caprylic acid
  • Clove oil
  • Colloidal silver
  • Enzymes, especially Cellulase and Hemicellulase
  • Mastic gum
  • Grapefruit seed extract
  • Olive leaf extract
  • Oil of oregano
  • Propolis
  • Pau d'arco
  • Tea tree oil applied topically (to heal athlete's foot or nail fungus)

Supplements to restore the health of gastrointestinal tract:
  • Probiotics
  • Digestive enzymes
  • Fiber
  • Omega-3 essential fatty acids
  • Alpha Lipoic Acid
  • CoQ 10
  • L-Glutamine
  • Phosphatidyl choline
  • Chromium polynicotinate
  • Vanadium sulfate
  • Bioflavonids, especially Quercetine
  • Betaine HCL

Supplements to support immune system:
  • Colostrum
  • L-Arginine
  • Organic germanium
  • Plant sterols
  • Probiotics
  • Reishi mushroom extract
  • Vitamins A, B complex, C, and E

A word about mushrooms

It is often wrongly assumed, that consumption of mushrooms will worsen candida. This reasoning uses simple generalization and species analogy in which fungus supposedly nourishes fungus. It has to be mentioned that Candida albicans, both as yeast and in its mycelin form, is a different species than mushrooms such as reishi. The popular belief is that by consuming mushrooms one is feeding candida and causing it to grow. It is however forgotten that candida cannot ferment and digest other fungus or mushrooms. It does not feed on mushrooms. It thrives on sugar. And while the Candida overgrowth is a condition that has to be addressed, medicinal mushrooms such as reishi, shiitake, and maitake have been used for centuries to detoxify and strengthen the body and to restore the immune system. Some medicinal mushrooms contain compounds that show amazingly strong anti-fungal activity and can be safely used to curtail the Candida infection.

Candida die off reactions

As I mentioned before, the goal of an Anti-Candida program is to destroy the yeast overgrowth, especially the Candida albicans in its mycelial form. Depending on a person's physical condition and the stage of Candida, one may experience mild to a more severe reactions that are known as the Herxheimer reaction. As the Candida dies rapidly after anti fungal herbs and supplements have been introduced into the system, it releases large amount of toxins. This leads to a toxic overload. The immune system and the detoxification pathways in the body are overwhelmed in already weakened patient. One may experience symptoms such as dizziness, headache, nausea, joint and muscle pain, skin rush. It is important to continue the Anti-Candida program and support the system with a lighter diet, purified water and plenty of rest. It may be necessary to reduce the dose of the anti-fungal one is taking, but one should never be tempted to stop the program. The preliminary symptoms clear as soon as the endotoxins have been cleared from the body.

The anti fungal therapy may seem very complex, but the protocols have to be followed consequently and with determination. It is possible to naturally restore the balance of microorganisms in the body and this takes time. With a little help, the body is able to reactivate its own healing mechanisms. To support the healing process detoxify your environment and avoid contact with harmful chemicals. Moderate physical activity and relaxation will help you stay fit and reduce the stress that is perpetuating your condition. Find an experienced health practitioner and join a support group. Your self-discipline and perseverance will pay off and you will be able to enjoy healthy, symptom-free life again.

The Secret to Health

The Secret to Health program reveals information that has been suppressed by the medical establishment for over 100 years! Learn how you can restore your health, increase your energy and vitality, and take control of your body again!

90% of disease is caused by toxins entering the body!

Every single day, your body absorbs millions of toxins from genetically modified foods, pesticides, meat, dairy, soy, white flour, table salt, MSG (monosodium glutamate), microwaved foods, refined sugar, and artificial sweeteners. You also receive toxins from caffeine, alcohol, electromagnetic radiation, heavy metals, parasites, industrial chemicals, and prescription drugs. These impurities contaminate nearly everything we eat, drink, touch, or breathe and they are the root cause of disease!

Did you know?
  • You should have three bowel movements every day, not two or three per week!
  • Constipation and other digestive disorders afflict 1 out of every 5 people in America, with the average person carrying up to 15lbs of impacted waste in their colon!
  • Experts estimate 9 out of 10 people have parasites in their bodies and don't know it!
  • Playing on a typical floor exposes babies' lungs to the equivalent of four cigarettes in the form of contaminants from mold, mildew, and dust mites!
  • Most pharmaceutical drugs list constipation as a major side effect!
  • Unnecessary medical procedures and prescription drug use in the U.S. accounts for over 700,000 deaths annually!
Toxic intestines are simply not able to absorb nutrients from food because they are inhibited by layers of accumulated, impacted waste material. This creates a narrowed passageway leading to constipation and other bowel problems. Constipation, as you know, makes regular bowel movements difficult at best and leads to further impaction. If toxins are not eliminated from the intestines on a regular basis, they leach back into the bloodstream through what is termed "leaky gut syndrome" and ultimately cause illness and disease!

Many acquired diseases can be traced to toxin exposure:
  • Cancer
  • Heart Disease
  • Diabetes
  • Arthritis
  • Liver Disease
  • Colon Dysfunction
  • Intestinal Disorder

So why has this been kept s "secret"?

Perhaps "secret" isn't the most accurate word. Plain "lack of knowledge" might be a better choice. Ask any doctor to explain the role of the intestines and how they function in the body and I guarantee they will not be able to give you a definitive answer. The reason for this is . . .

Doctors are not being taught to prevent disease!

If preventative measures and cleansing were taught in medical schools many diseases we take for granted would simply cease to exist. The pharmaceutical industry, government-funded medical research, and entire armies of around-the-clock medical staff would all be unnecessary if people discovered all they had to do to achieve optimal health was just keep their intestines and liver clean. What we're really talking about here is the loss of billions of dollars in annual healthcare revenue!

Medical science can explain the function of every organ in the body except... the appendix?

Sound strange? Why do you think so many people have their appendix removed? Doctors still don't know what the appendix is much less what it does. Standard treatment methods, as taught in medical schools, dictate removing the appendix whenever it becomes inflamed.

The medical industry realizes a simple truth-without your appendix, you are destined for bad health and they can sell you more drugs, perform more unnecessary surgeries, or (even worse) treat you with deadly radiation as a "cure" that's definitely worse than the disease.

So why is the appendix so important anyway? The appendix is located at the juncture of the small and large intestines and acts as a body regulator and communicator. The appendix monitors internal pH, the toxic load present, the opening and closing of the ileocecal valve, and it also sends messages to the immune system regarding activity in the bowel.

My theory is-the appendix works like a microcomputer relay station for the body. You might be wondering, "Why would the body's regulatory computer be located in the colon of all places?" My answer is-why not? All too often, the digestive system and the colon in particular have the status of being regarded as "second-class organs" because we're embarrassed about their function, namely waste elimination. Consider for a moment just how important these components are in the grand scheme of biological living-the intestines are the first exposure point and thus the first line of defense against environmental toxins to which we intentionally or accidentally expose ourselves.

Imagine what would happen to your life if you never cleaned your house, never took out the garbage, never vacuumed your car, or never even took a shower. What would your body (or your social life for that matter) resemble after 10 solid years of wallowing in filth? Your body would be repellant and disgusting beyond belief and would likely be a festering breeding ground for parasites and disease.

Can Chromium Help Balance Cholesterol?

Chromium as a cholesterol controlling supplement

Chromium is an essential trace mineral first discovered in 1955. Although our bodies contain only a few milligrams, even this tiny amount is critical for regulating insulin and blood sugar levels, as well as activating enzymes essential for energy production. We get chromium through food, primarily yeast, grains, nuts, prunes, potatoes, and seafood. But we don't get enough overall. Many Americans are deficient in chromium. One reason is that diets high in refined sugar leach chromium right out of us. Recent studies find that supplementing with chromium may not only lower cholesterol but also help stabilize blood sugar levels and improve insulin sensitivity. Thus, it may be particularly beneficial to people with metabolic syndrome or diabetes.

What does the research show?

In one small study of 28 people, those taking 200 micrograms of chromium daily for 42 days had significant decreases in both total cholesterol and LDL, decreases that didn't occur when they took a placebo. At least eight other studies have found that chromium supplementation improved cholesterol. And numerous studies found supplementing with at least 400 micrograms of chromium improved fasting glucose levels, a sign of improved insulin sensitivity. Be aware that chromium may take several weeks or even months to yield results.

Who should take it?

People with metabolic syndrome or diabetes, as well as anyone susceptible to chromium deficiency including athletes, the elderly, and people who follow diets high in refined sugar.

Recommended dose

It is suggested to take 200 to 400 micrograms a day in divided doses for people with insulin resistance. 400 to 1,000 micrograms a day in divided doses for people with diabetes. For cholesterol maintenance 200 micrograms daily should be sufficient.

Warnings and contraindications

If you have diabetes, check with your doctor. Taking chromium may alter your requirements for insulin or other diabetes medication.
